2 men sitting in car shot dead On a Wednesday evening in New Orleans, what should have been an ordinary night turned into a scene of violence that claimed the life of 28-year-old Jamal Phillips, a Black male. On December 14, 2011, shortly after 7 p.m., Phillips and a friend, Terrance Barber Jr., were seated in a burgundy Buick Century parked at 3915 Annunciation St. Phillips was in the driver's seat.
Suddenly, a black pickup truck carrying multiple gunmen approached their vehicle.
A volley of gunfire erupted, striking both men inside the car. In the chaotic moments that followed, the bullet-riddled Buick rolled forward, eventually crashing into another vehicle on the opposite side of the street. The assailants fled the scene.
Emergency services were called, and upon arrival, Terrance Barber Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene. Jamal Phillips, gravely wounded, was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the New Orleans Police Department launched an investigation into the double homicide. While no arrests have been made in connection with the murders, authorities have stated their belief that the shooting was gang-related. The case remains open, and the perpetrators responsible for the deaths of Jamal Phillips and Terrance Barber Jr. have not been brought to justice.
