Alvin Hogan, a 39-year-old resident of Oakland, California, tragically lost his life on the night of October 15, 2020. The incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of 89th Avenue in East Oakland. Hogan was fatally shot during a violent episode that also left two other individuals wounded. The Oakland Police Department responded to the scene following an activation of the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system.

The investigation into Hogan's death led to the arrest of Carlton Coleman, a 34-year-old man who was identified as a suspect in the case. During his arrest, police discovered an "AK-style" pistol, 320 balloons of suspected heroin, and $200 in cash in Coleman's possession.
