On September 28, 2024, 38-year-old Tony Miller was fatally shot during the annual McClymonds High School Alumni Picnic at DeFremery Park in West Oakland. The event, which typically draws hundreds of attendees, was concluding around 7:30 p.m. when gunfire erupted, causing panic among the approximately 200 people present. Miller, a McClymonds alumnus and father of four, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
