Daniel Takashi Sakai, a 35-year-old sergeant with the Oakland Police Department, tragically lost his life on March 21, 2009, in Oakland, California. Sergeant Sakai, along with his colleague Sergeant Ervin Romans, was part of a SWAT team deployed to apprehend a suspect who had earlier in the day fatally shot Sergeant Mark Dunakin and critically wounded Officer John Hege during a traffic stop.
