Isaiah Cardenas, a 26-year-old resident of San Mateo, California, tragically lost his life on March 29, 2021, in a shooting incident near the 24th Street Mission BART station in San Francisco. The shooting occurred around 9:05 p.m. and also left a 23-year-old man injured. Cardenas was pronounced dead at the scene, having suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
The incident was a shocking and unprovoked attack that left the community in mourning.
Following an extensive investigation, San Francisco police were able to identify and arrest two suspects in connection with the shooting. Keshon Wilson, a 30-year-old resident of San Francisco, was arrested on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, and assault. Wilson, who was working as a power washer at the BART station on the night of the incident, allegedly approached a group of people and opened fire. He was apprehended on April 30, 2021, in the city's Bayview neighborhood. The second suspect, Arthur Grady, a 37-year-old resident of Stockton, was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory after the fact. Grady was located and arrested on May 5, 2021, in South San Francisco.
The case proceeded to trial, where Keshon Wilson was convicted of first-degree murder and premeditated attempted murder. The jury found that Wilson had personally and intentionally discharged a firearm, causing great bodily injury or death. Evidence presented at trial revealed that Wilson had an argument with a group of people at the BART station, left the scene, and then returned to carry out a surprise attack. He fired multiple shots, hitting Cardenas and another man, before fleeing the scene. Wilson was later arrested at his home, where police found the murder weapon and other firearm accessories. He faces a sentence of 82 years to life in prison, with sentencing scheduled for June 3, 2024.
