In the early morning hours of October 20, 2021, Dennis 'Cowboy' Keith Devers Jr., a 49-year-old man from Irvington, Kentucky, was shot and killed outside his home on Lonnie Haynes Road. The tragic event was the culmination of a domestic dispute with his wife, Amanda M. Devers, who was 33 years old at the time. The argument that led to the fatal shooting was reportedly over personal property, with some sources specifying it was about a horse and a saddle.
Kentucky State Police responded to a call about the shooting at approximately 6:52 a.m. and discovered Dennis Devers deceased at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. A neighbor reported seeing his body in the street, wrapped in a blanket. During the altercation, Amanda Devers also sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to her foot.
Following the incident, Amanda Devers was taken to Baptist Health Hardin for treatment of her injury. After being released from the hospital, she was arrested and charged with murder. She was subsequently lodged in the Breckinridge County Detention Center. The investigation into Dennis Devers' death was handled by the Kentucky State Police. His body was transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville for an autopsy.
Further reports revealed a history of domestic trouble between the couple. An emergency protective order had been filed by Amanda against Dennis in the month prior to his death. Just days before the shooting, Dennis had been released from jail after being arrested for assaulting his wife and violating that order. The case was dismissed at Amanda's request, only for the fatal confrontation to occur the following day. Dennis Devers, a bricklayer by trade, was remembered as a loving father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather who had a passion for the Western lifestyle.
