A 53-year-old man was shot to death at a home in the 200 block of 22nd Avenue West on Tuesday, according to Birmingham police.

Police identified the victim as Ronald Smith of Birmingham.

Officers responded to a report of a person down at the location around 11:30 a.m. and found Smith in his bedroom, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Sgt. Bryan Shelton said police received the call from someone who came to check on him.
