On a Tuesday evening in late December of 2015, tragedy struck the Ensley neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama. Ronald Smith, a 53-year-old man, was found shot in a vehicle on 22nd Avenue West. The discovery was made after officers from the West Precinct responded to a report of a person down.

Upon their arrival at the scene, law enforcement found Mr. Smith inside a vehicle, having sustained at least one gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel were also dispatched to the ...
