On January 1, 2017, Joseph Smith, a 40-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in the 3800 block of D’Hemecourt Street in New Orleans. At approximately 2:22 p.m., New Orleans Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered Joseph Smith unresponsive in the front yard of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
