Trinity George, a 17-year-old male, was fatally shot on September 3, 2026, in the Gentilly Woods area of New Orleans. Shortly after 2 p.m., New Orleans Police Department Third District officers were sent to the 4400 block of Chef Menteur Highway after receiving a report of a shooting. George was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound near a business in the area. Emergency medical personnel rushed him to a local hospital, but he later died from his injuries. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office subsequently identified him as the victim.

The shooting occurred in the vicinity of a New Orleans Original Daiquiris location along Chef Menteur Highway. Investigators said the encounter apparently began when two individuals crossed paths near the business, although authorities did not publicly disclose what led to the confrontation or what may have motivated the shooting. Police officers who were working nearby at a Walmart across the highway were alerted to the wounded victim, bringing law enforcement to the scene quickly. Homicide detectives and a K9 unit began searching the surrounding area as officers secured the parking lot and nearby streets.

The investigation quickly expanded beyond the shooting scene. Louisiana State Police troopers spotted a suspicious vehicle speeding away from the area around the time of the killing. Troopers pursued the vehicle until it became disabled a short distance away near the Majestic Oaks apartments. The occupants fled, prompting officers and troopers to establish a perimeter and conduct a search. One man was located following a brief foot pursuit, while another person believed to have been inside the vehicle escaped the immediate search.

The man taken into custody was identified as Robert G. Rodriguez, 23. Investigators initially detained Rodriguez for questioning. After interviewing him and continuing their investigation, NOPD homicide detectives obtained an arrest warrant accusing him of second-degree murder in connection with George's death. Rodriguez was then booked into the Orleans Justice Center on the murder charge. Police also booked him on an outstanding court capias and a separate traffic warrant.

Authorities indicated that two people had been inside the vehicle that fled from the homicide scene. While Rodriguez was captured, the second suspected occupant was not located during the initial manhunt. Police did not publicly identify that person in the available reporting, and no subsequent online source located through September 24, 2026, reported that the second individual had been arrested or formally charged in George's killing.

The case remained an active homicide investigation after Rodriguez's arrest. No trial, plea, or conviction had been publicly reported in connection with the case as of the latest available information. Rodriguez's second-degree murder charge is an accusation, and the case against him had not yet resulted in a determination of guilt. Investigators continued seeking information concerning the circumstances of the shooting and the identity or whereabouts of the second person who fled from the scene.
