In the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans, on the evening of December 1, 2010, 19-year-old Torrance Massey, a former high school quarterback, was fatally shot. The incident occurred as he was sitting in the driver's seat of a car on General Meyer Avenue, shortly after attending a basketball game at his alma mater, O. Perry Walker High School. A passenger in the vehicle with Massey was also wounded in the shooting but survived.

Boogie,' had a promising future. After graduating from O. Perry Walker, he had attended the Apprentice School of Shipbuilding in Newport News, Virginia, and had plans to enroll at Southern University in Baton Rouge. Friends and family remember him as a positive young man who was not involved in trouble. He was a father to a daughter named Jona Scott.
In the wake of the shooting, law enforcement officials, including the New Orleans Police Superintendent at the time, Ronal Serpas, and City Councilwoman Kristin Palmer, made public appeals for information. They visited O. Perry Walker High School to encourage students who may have witnessed the event to come forward and assist with the investigation.
Despite these efforts and the profound loss experienced by his family and the community, no suspect has ever been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Torrance Massey. The motive for the shooting also remains unknown, leaving his case unsolved. His family laid him to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in New Orleans.
