Police Officer Vito A. Chiaramonte, aged 32, tragically lost his life on September 26, 1977, while on duty in New York City. Officer Chiaramonte was patrolling the Baruch Houses near FDR Drive and Delancey Street when he was shot in the head with a .32 caliber handgun. Despite being found alive by a civilian and rushed to Bellevue Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries.
