In the late afternoon of June 28, 2023, a burst of gunfire shattered the relative calm outside the Polo Grounds Houses in Washington Heights. Trequan Wingfield, a 17-year-old male, was spending time with friends near his own residence at 2971 Frederick Douglass Blvd. when the shots rang out just before 4 p.m. His 16-year-old brother was with him at the time and managed to escape the spray of bullets unharmed.
