On May 7, 2024, 16-year-old Mahki Brown was fatally shot in front of the Dominick Hotel on Spring Street in SoHo, New York City. A student at Broome Street Academy Charter High School and an avid basketball player from Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Brown was attempting to mediate a dispute between two female classmates when the incident occurred.
