An evening of celebration took a tragic turn in the early morning hours of January 27, 2005, ending the life of 28-year-old Nicole DuFresne, a promising white actress and playwright. DuFresne, her fiancé, and another couple were walking on Clinton Street on Manhattan's Lower East Side after she had finished a shift at a new bartending job.
