On an April afternoon in 2014, a violent encounter in Rochester, New York, claimed the life of 49-year-old Ronald Stern, a male resident of nearby Holley. The events unfolded on Genesee Street, where Stern and an acquaintance, Earl Cartwright, were shot. While Cartwright survived his injuries, Stern was found deceased in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store, having driven there after the shooting.
The investigation into the double shooting led to the arrests of two Rochester men,
Edward 'Easy' Ross and Javar 'J.V.' McCullough, also known as 'Show'. Both men faced charges in connection with the incident that left one man dead and another wounded. The motive behind the shooting was described by authorities as a dispute over a woman.
In March 2016, Edward Ross accepted a plea deal. He pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of first-degree manslaughter, as well as second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. As a result of his guilty plea, Ross was sentenced to 22 years in state prison.
Javar McCullough was also prosecuted for his alleged involvement in the crime. Following a jury trial, he was convicted of second-degree murder for his role in the death of Ronald Stern. His conviction ensured that both individuals identified by law enforcement as responsible for the fatal shooting were held accountable.
