In the South Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York, a long-simmering family conflict reached a tragic and fatal conclusion on August 19, 2014. On that day, 55-year-old Langley Bruce was shot and killed. The man responsible for his death was his own son, Anthony Guyton, and the unfortunate incident occurred on Guyton's birthday.
The series of events that led to the death of Langley Bruce began with a heated argument between father and son.

While Bruce sat in his 2013 Chevrolet Impala outside his son's home, Guyton emerged with a 9-mm Hi-Point pistol and fired a single, fatal shot into his father's heart.
Though he was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, Langley Bruce succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The sound of the gunshot had attracted the attention of nearby patrolling police officers, who were able to apprehend Anthony Guyton at the scene. He was subsequently arrested and faced charges of murder and criminal possession of a firearm. Family members and those in the community remembered Bruce as a respectable, loving, and generous man, and were left in shock and sadness by the violent end to his life.
