In the winter of 2020, a Queens neighborhood was shaken by the violent death of Vladimir Olivo, a 42-year-old man. On the evening of January 13th, in the vicinity of Northern Boulevard and 208th Street, Olivo was fatally shot. The incident was not a random act of violence but rather a targeted event with ties to organized crime.
Investigations into Olivo's death led authorities to Jerry Rojas, also known by the alias 'Feddi.'
Rojas was identified as a member of the Black Stone Gorilla Gang, a notorious racketeering enterprise with a significant presence in the New York City metropolitan area. The gang was known for its involvement in a range of criminal activities, including drug distribution and acts of violence to protect its operations and intimidate potential witnesses.
In March 2020, a superseding indictment was unsealed, formally charging Rojas with the murder of Vladimir Olivo. The indictment alleged that Rojas shot and killed Olivo as part of his involvement with the criminal enterprise. Beyond the murder charge, Rojas also faced federal charges for participating in a conspiracy to distribute various narcotics, including heroin, cocaine, and marijuana, dating back to 2011. Furthermore, he was charged with using a firearm in furtherance of this conspiracy, highlighting the violent nature of the gang's activities. The arrest and indictment of Rojas were the culmination of a collaborative investigation involving the NYPD, the DEA, and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.
