In the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, Howard Tony A. Sterling, a 53-year-old Black man, was a beloved figure, known by some as the "Santa Clause of Red Hook" for his generosity. His life was tragically cut short on the morning of October 5, 2014, when he was found shot in his apartment in the Red Hook Houses.
