On January 29, 2023, at approximately 12:47 p.m., 32-year-old Bronx resident Lamel Murphy was fatally shot inside an apartment on Covert Street near Bushwick Avenue in Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood. Responding to a 911 call, police found Murphy with gunshot wounds to his chest and leg. He was transported to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
