On January 22, 2024, Desmond Francis, a 36-year-old resident of Brooklyn, New York, was fatally shot outside a smoke shop near the intersection of Ralph and Sutter Avenues in the Brownsville neighborhood. The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m., shortly after Francis had completed his morning shift as a school bus driver.
