Jermaine Desaussure, a 41-year-old Black male, was found deceased inside his Brooklyn apartment on January 6, 2023. Police responded to a 911 call regarding possible gunshots at 94 Rockaway Parkway at approximately 2:21 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered Desaussure unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency Medical Services pronounced him dead at the scene.
Desaussure's roommate found him lying on the floor of their apartment earlier that morning but
initially thought he had passed out and went to sleep. It wasn't until hours later that the roommate realized Desaussure was deceased and that the apartment had been forcibly entered. Various items, including clothing and personal belongings, were reported stolen from the residence. Friends knew Jermaine Desaussure by the nickname 'Light'.
The roommate mentioned that Desaussure, a father of two, had moved into the apartment about a month before his death. While the roommate described him as someone who enjoyed joking, he also speculated that the homicide might have been related to drug dealings, suggesting Desaussure owed money. As of now, authorities have not confirmed a motive for the killing. The police investigation into the death of Jermaine Desaussure is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
