In the late summer of 2015, the life of 18-year-old Taj J. Smith was tragically cut short in New Orleans. On August 15th, he was killed in what the New Orleans Police Department would investigate as a homicide. The incident took place in the 7300 block of Poitevent Avenue, a detail that would become central to the ensuing investigation. The young man's death left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who would later gather to mourn their loss and celebrate his brief life.
