In the summer of 2010, the life of a 71-year-old Black/African American man named Joseph "Mike" Diggs was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in New Orleans. On the evening of June 23, 2010, just a day before his 72nd birthday, Diggs was shot in the neck outside his home in the Algiers neighborhood. The incident was believed to have been an attempted carjacking.
