18 year old shot and killed in drive by shooting
On the evening of March 16, 2015, Steve G. Brackens III, an 18-year-old African-American male, was standing outside a house in the 1200 block of Sumner Street in the Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans. Just a year prior, in May of 2014, he had graduated from L.B. Landry High School and was at the beginning of his adult life. He was in the company of two other males, aged 18 and 70, at approximately 8:45 p.m. when the fatal incident unfolded.
A dark-colored SUV approached the trio, and an occupant of the vehicle opened fire. Brackens was struck twice by the gunfire. Emergency services transported him to the University Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased. It is not publicly known if the two other males with him sustained any injuries in the attack.
In the wake of the shooting, the case remains unsolved. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Steve Brackens III, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation into his death is still considered an open case.
