24 year old found dead behind New Orleans food pantry On a warm and humid Friday morning in New Orleans, September 19, 2014, the body of 24-year-old Darius R. Bazile was discovered. A co-founder of the Love In Action Outreach food pantry, located at 4607 Downman Rd., arrived for her workday around 8 a.m. and went to open the back parking gate, a routine she had performed countless times. This time, however, she was met with a grim scene.
Darius Bazile, an African-American male, was found lying face down, his boots and body position indicating to the woman that he was deceased.
Darius, born on August 2, 1990, in Marrero, Louisiana, was a father to his son, Darien R. Bazile. He had graduated from G. W. Carver High School in 2009. His life was cut short by what was later determined to be a gunshot wound. The discovery of his body behind the food pantry launched a homicide investigation.
Despite the passage of time, the circumstances surrounding Darius Bazile's death remain shrouded in mystery. Law enforcement authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or a motive in his killing. The case has grown cold, leaving his family and friends without answers or a sense of justice. No arrests have been made in connection with his murder, and the investigation remains open. A funeral service was held for Darius on October 4, 2014, at the Greater Bright Morning Star Baptist Church, and he was laid to rest at Mount Olivet Cemetery in New Orleans.
