In the early evening of October 4, 2023, tragedy struck in New Orleans when 18-year-old Kenneth Johnson, a male student at L.B. Landry High School, was involved in a double shooting. The incident occurred in the 400 block of Josephine Street. First responders initially received a call about a shooting at the intersection of Saint Thomas and Saint Andrew streets, but upon arrival, they found no victims at the scene.
Shortly thereafter, two men with gunshot wounds arrived at separate local hospitals. It was later determined that both men were injured in the same event.
Kenneth Johnson was one of those two individuals. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity on October 6 and determined that the cause of death was from gunshot wounds. Johnson was remembered by his family as a person who could always make you smile and as a proud new father to a two-month-old baby girl. His grandmother lovingly referred to him as her 'Miracle grandbaby' who approached everything he did with dedication.
The New Orleans Police Department's Homicide Section immediately began an investigation into the shooting. As detectives delved into the case, they were able to identify Khron A. Williams, who was 18 years old at the time, as the primary suspect in Johnson's death. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Williams, charging him with one count of second-degree murder.
On November 30, 2023, members of the NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad, along with the Violent Crime Abatement and Investigative Team and K9 Unit, located the suspect in the Fourth District. Khron A. Williams was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center to face the murder charge brought against him in connection with the death of Kenneth Johnson.
