In the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, a vibrant life was tragically cut short on a Tuesday evening. Lionell McLean, a 29-year-old male, was fatally shot on February 16, 2016. This father of two was a resident of the area, living on Herkimer Street. On the night he was killed, McLean was with his girlfriend not far from his home.
The couple reportedly became embroiled in a dispute with another man and woman on Hancock Street around 7:30 p.m.
The altercation escalated dramatically when the other man produced a firearm and shot McLean. First responders discovered gunshot wounds to his head and torso. He was rushed to Interfaith Hospital, but the injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced deceased.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the male and female suspects fled the scene, leaving McLean's girlfriend to desperately try and revive him. At the time of the initial reports, the New York Police Department had not made any arrests in connection with the homicide and were actively searching for those responsible for Lionell McLean's death.
