In the early morning hours of May 3, 2013, a sense of unease settled over a home on Spann Avenue in the Fountain Square neighborhood of Indianapolis. Inside, 24-year-old Jerrica Johnson, an African-American mother, was found unresponsive. A 911 call was placed just before 7:00 a.m., summoning officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department to the residence.
