In the late hours of a December night in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, the life of 19-year-old Jose Osorio was tragically cut short. Just after midnight on December 20, 2017, gunfire erupted outside a building on Havemeyer Street. When officers from the 90th Precinct arrived at the scene, they found Osorio with gunshot wounds to his leg and back. A 20-year-old man was also wounded, having been shot in the shoulder.
Both young men were rushed to Woodhull Hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Jose Osorio succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The 20-year-old victim survived the shooting. Investigators believe the shooters fled the scene in a white sedan. The motive for the shooting remained under investigation.
For nearly six months, the case continued as police searched for those responsible for Osorio's death. Then, in June 2018, a breakthrough came in the investigation. Police arrested 25-year-old Donovan Boomer of Queens in connection with the fatal shooting. Boomer was charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. At his arraignment, he was held without bail. Reports indicated that Boomer and several other men had allegedly been looking for Osorio in Brooklyn in the days leading up to the shooting.
