On April 14, 2016, Shamel Matthews, a 21-year-old resident of Staten Island, New York, was tragically shot and killed. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Henderson Avenue in the West Brighton section of Staten Island. Police responded to reports of a shooting and found Matthews with a gunshot wound to his right torso.
