In the early evening of June 21, 2022, a dispute on a Staten Island street escalated into a fatal act of violence that would end the life of a young man. Doraymus Robinson, a 22-year-old male from Lamport Boulevard, was at 35 Victory Boulevard when an altercation allegedly broke out between him and another individual. At approximately 5:56 p.m., the argument took a tragic turn when a firearm was discharged, and Robinson was struck in the head by a bullet.
First responders arrived at the
scene to find Robinson critically injured. Paramedics quickly transported him to Richmond University Medical Center, where medical professionals fought to save his life. Despite their efforts, Robinson succumbed to his severe injuries five days later, on June 26, 2022. He was remembered by loved ones in services held in early July of that year.
The New York Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led to the arrest of 18-year-old Naquan Brooks, a resident of Brooklyn, on June 23, even before Robinson had passed away. Brooks was initially charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal use of a firearm. Following Robinson's death, it was anticipated that the charges against Brooks would be upgraded. The police recovered a firearm at the scene of the shooting. While the authorities confirmed that an altercation preceded the deadly encounter, the specific cause of the dispute remained under investigation.
