In the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, a dispute that began inside a local barbershop tragically escalated, leading to the death of 44-year-old Shane McCargo on June 7, 2016. The altercation spilled out onto Marcus Garvey Boulevard where McCargo was fatally shot in the head.
The incident unfolded in the evening, beginning with a heated argument inside D's Barbershop. McCargo and another man took their conflict outside, where the situation turned violent.
As shots were fired, McCargo attempted to take cover behind a parked car, but was struck by a bullet to his forehead. He was rushed to Woodhull Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In the months following the shooting, the New York Police Department identified a suspect in the case. Michael Woolridge, a 43-year-old Black man, was publicly named as the individual wanted in connection with McCargo's murder. Authorities stated that the argument between Woolridge and McCargo was reportedly over a woman. The police described Woolridge as being approximately 5-feet-5-inches tall and weighing 170 pounds, with brown eyes and short black hair. They released a photograph and surveillance footage to the public in an effort to locate him.
