In the spring of 2022, a shooting in New Orleans claimed the life of a 32-year-old man. On the evening of March 25th, officers from the New Orleans Police Department's Second District were dispatched to the 3000 block of Eagle Street following reports of an aggravated battery by shooting. Upon their arrival at approximately 7:37 p.m., they discovered an unresponsive adult male who had sustained a gunshot wound.
Emergency medical services transported the victim to a local hospital, but
his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased. On March 28, the Orleans Parish Coroner's Office formally identified the victim as Derwin Bernard.
The subsequent investigation by the NOPD Homicide Unit led to the identification of a suspect. Detectives developed evidence that pointed to Armand Labranch as the alleged perpetrator in the fatal shooting. Based on their findings, an arrest warrant was secured for Labranch on one count of second-degree murder.
On May 5, 2022, the NOPD's Violent Offender Warrant Squad located and arrested Armand Labranch without incident. He was then booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center. Publicly available information does not detail Labranch's ethnicity.
