In the early hours of a late June morning in New Orleans, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the Holy Cross neighborhood. When police officers arrived at the intersection of Douglass and Delery streets around 12:38 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, they discovered a grim scene. Jesus Torres Ramirez, a male of Hispanic descent, was discovered lying in
the street, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. As officers secured the area, they found the second victim, Jose Luis Torres Ramirez, in the backyard of a nearby property, also with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the location, but both men were pronounced dead at the scene. The Orleans Parish Coroner's Office later confirmed their identities and the cause of death as homicide by shooting.
