Tiarah Shanice Poyau, a 22-year-old graduate student at St. John's University, tragically lost her life on September 5, 2016, during the J'Ouvert festival in Brooklyn, New York. Poyau, who was pursuing a master's degree in accounting and interning at PwC, was shot in the face at close range while walking with friends at the festival.
