Anna Bulchenko, a 56-year-old woman of Eastern European descent, was murdered on February 11, 2011. She was fatally stabbed inside her Brooklyn home by a man identified as 23-year-old Maksim Gelman. The attack occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m., when he entered the home of a female acquaintance and used a kitchen knife to kill Anna. At the time, she was the mother of Yelena Bulchenko and had no known conflict with Gelman, who appeared to carry out the assault with shocking suddenness.
