In the early morning hours of July 6, 2014, in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, 32-year-old Tamecca Haskins was shot and killed. The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. outside 180 Lefferts Place. Haskins was with a 34-year-old man, Donn Wynn, who was also shot and critically injured. Both victims were rushed to the hospital, where Haskins was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Just hours before the shooting, Haskins had been at a barbecue celebrating the
birthday of a friend who had been killed the previous year. Friends and family described her as a dedicated and hardworking mother to her 7-year-old daughter. A recent graduate from Long Island University, she worked as a respiratory therapist at two hospitals and had just accepted a third job. Those who knew her said she was motivated and that everything she did was for her daughter.
Tragically, the violence that claimed Tamecca Haskins' life also took another. Nearly three weeks after the shooting, on July 26, 2014, Donn Wynn succumbed to his injuries. The community mourned the loss of two of its members.
In the immediate aftermath of the double homicide, police launched an investigation. However, despite their efforts, the case proved difficult, reportedly hampered by a lack of eyewitnesses and strong leads. As of late 2025, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Tamecca Haskins and Donn Wynn, and the case remains unresolved.
