Lacy K. Williams, a 32-year-old woman from Danville, Illinois, tragically lost her life on May 9, 2025, in what authorities have described as an apparent murder-suicide. The incident unfolded in the evening hours when Danville Police responded to reports of gunfire in the 200 block of Grace Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered Williams lying in the front yard of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was immediately transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene reported hearing gunshots and then seeing a man standing next to Williams while holding a handgun. The suspect, identified as 67-year-old William J. Rudy, also of Danville, then entered the residence and was not seen again. Law enforcement officers attempted to make contact with Rudy but were unsuccessful. The Danville Police Emergency Response Unit was subsequently deployed to the scene and entered the residence, where they found Rudy deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities, including the Danville Police Department and the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office, are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Autopsies were conducted on May 11, 2025, and the final determinations are pending the results of toxicology testing. Officials have urged anyone with information related to the case to contact the Danville Police Department or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers.
Williams' passing has left the community in shock, as friends and family mourn the loss of the 32-year-old woman. Funeral arrangements for Williams are being handled by Watson Cremation Services in Danville.
