On an April evening in 2017, the life of 36-year-old Melvin White of Rochester, New York, was violently cut short. On April 17th, as White and a friend were getting into a vehicle on Central Avenue, they were suddenly attacked. In the ensuing chaos, White was shot twice. The assailants also robbed his friend during the assault. Emergency services were quickly on the scene, and White was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The Rochester Police Department's Major Crimes Unit immediately launched an intensive investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of three suspects: Jamol Jackson, Elis Rosa, Jr., and Michael Mighty. The subsequent legal proceedings brought the details of the fatal encounter to light and held the responsible parties accountable for their actions.
The prosecution of the three men resulted in convictions for the murder of Melvin White. Michael Mighty entered a guilty plea to a charge of Murder in the 2nd Degree in January 2018. Two months later, a Monroe County jury found Jamol Jackson and Elis Rosa, Jr. guilty on multiple counts, including Murder in the 2nd Degree and Robbery. The convictions brought a measure of justice for the senseless killing that ended a man's life and forever altered the lives of his friends and family.
