J'Mere Ridley-Smith, a 25-year-old Black male from Rochester, New York, was fatally shot on July 26, 2025. The incident occurred in the afternoon, at approximately 4:15 p.m., inside the Wegmans distribution center on Brooks Avenue in the Town of Gates, where Ridley-Smith was an employee. He was discovered by responding officers in a cooler area of the facility suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving measures attempted at the scene, he was pronounced dead.
