In the early hours of February 11, 2024, a night out in Rochester, New York, turned deadly for 49-year-old Wahid 'Choncho' Nazario. The male victim was with 43-year-old Frank Rosario Vazquez at a bar on North Goodman Street when an altercation broke out. Bouncers at the establishment ejected the men involved, including 42-year-old Hector Ramos-Diaz.
After being removed from the bar, Ramos-Diaz waited for Nazario and Vazquez.
As the two men were getting into their car on North Goodman Street at approximately 1:30 a.m., Ramos-Diaz opened fire, shooting both men multiple times. The attack was not a random act of violence. When police officers arrived at the scene, they found both Nazario and Vazquez in the street, where they were pronounced dead. Nazario's family described him as a hardworking and dedicated man who was a loving father and was always there for his family and friends.
Following the shooting, an investigation identified Hector Ramos-Diaz as the suspect. Investigators learned that he had fled to Puerto Rico. He was later apprehended there and extradited back to Rochester to face charges. In court, Ramos-Diaz pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree manslaughter for the killings of Wahid Nazario and Frank Rosario Vazquez. As a result of his guilty plea, he faces a sentence of 25 years in prison, which will be followed by five years of post-release supervision.
