In the early hours of a summer morning, the parking lot of a Rochester, New York Walmart on Hudson Avenue became the scene of a tragedy that claimed the life of 18-year-old Angel Gonzalez-Pagan. On June 28, 2021, a gathering of several hundred people turned chaotic when a fight erupted, leading to a barrage of nearly 50 gunshots just before 1:00 a.m.
Gonzalez-Pagan was fatally wounded in the gunfire, which also left three other individuals injured, one critically.
The initial investigation suggested the violence may have stemmed from one or more altercations within the large crowd. According to his aunt, who was present that night, she found her nephew under a car after he had been shot and rushed him to the hospital. The gathering was reportedly one of several 'Fast and Furious' events that had been associated with other shooting incidents in the city that same night.
