In the early morning hours of October 21, 2017, Keith Pinckney, a 36-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in the Bronx, New York. Pinckney, a father of two, had been attending a house party on Davidson Avenue in the Morris Heights neighborhood. He reportedly stepped outside of the party at approximately 2 a.m. and was discovered less than thirty minutes later with gunshot wounds to his head and chest.
Emergency services transported Pinckney to Saint Barnabas Hospital, but he did not
survive his injuries. Known in his community by the nicknames 'Rell' and 'Slaughter,' his death was met with shock and grief by those who knew him. In the wake of his passing, a candlelight vigil was held in his memory, a testament to the impact he had on his neighborhood. Despite his past encounters with law enforcement, which included 38 arrests primarily for drug and marijuana possession, neighbors remembered him as a caring and jovial individual.
