Born and raised in Niagara Falls, he had spent his life building connections and was known for the joy he brought to those around him. He worked as a chef, a trade that suited his personality, and was a passionate fan of the Buffalo Bills.
His life, however, was cut short on the night of October 28, 2017, in a violent encounter that left his family and friends mourning a profound loss.

The incident occurred on 19th Street in Niagara Falls, where Smith was fatally shot. The investigation led to the arrest of 26-year-old Jamell Parker. As the legal process unfolded, Parker eventually pleaded guilty to the murder of Marlowe Smith, admitting his role in the tragic event that had taken a cherished member of the community.
In June 2018, the case came to a close in a New York State Supreme Courtroom. Jamell Parker was sentenced for the murder of Marlowe Smith. The judge handed down the maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, to be followed by five years of post-release supervision.
