In the spring of 2018, the life of a talented 24-year-old street dancer named Charles Powell was tragically cut short on a street in the Bronx. On the evening of May 16th, at approximately 5:50 p.m., gunshots echoed near East 169th Street and Clay Avenue. When police arrived at the scene, they found Powell unconscious and unresponsive, having sustained gunshot wounds to his head and leg. He was rushed to Bronx Lebanon Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced deceased.

Witnesses reported seeing three men fleeing the scene of the shooting. In the days and months that followed, the New York City Police Department actively investigated the homicide. Friends and family remembered Powell as a member of the Bronx-based street dancing group, the BBoy Rebels.
As the investigation progressed, the NYPD identified a person of interest in the case. In April 2019, nearly a year after the fatal shooting, police released photographs of 25-year-old Shawn Lewis, who they believed was connected to Powell's death. Law enforcement officials stated that another individual who had been sought for questioning was no longer considered a person of interest. The police described Lewis and asked for the public's assistance in locating him. Despite these efforts, information regarding any arrests or the current status of the case against any suspects has not been made publicly available in the years since.
