In the early morning hours of June 11, 2021, a young life was abruptly cut short in the Soundview neighborhood of the Bronx. Ameen Johnson Jr., an 18-year-old male, was fatally shot just before 1 a.m. in front of a bodega located at 1741 East 172nd Street. First responders were dispatched to the scene following a 911 call reporting a person shot. Upon their arrival, police officers discovered Johnson with gunshot wounds to his back and shoulder.
Emergency medical services promptly
transported the young man to Jacobi Medical Center, but tragically, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the hospital. At the time of the incident, Johnson was reportedly sitting inside a Honda Odyssey. According to a police source, a man wearing a yellow bike helmet approached the vehicle, fired his gun twice, and then fled the scene on an e-bike. The shooting is believed to have stemmed from a dispute between the shooter and Johnson.
His mother described him as a good kid who had recently graduated from high school and was working temporary jobs. She expressed a belief that her son may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, associating with the wrong crowd.
As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting of Ameen Johnson Jr. The investigation into his death remains ongoing, and police have not publicly identified any suspects. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to assist in the investigation.
