A promising life was cut short on a Saturday night in the Bronx. On May 14, 2022, Kashmere Davis, a 27-year-old male, found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. At approximately 10:25 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the evening calm at 473 E. 146th Street. When police arrived at the scene following a 911 call, they discovered a grim reality.
Davis was lying unconscious and unresponsive, having sustained two gunshot wounds to his chest.
Emergency medical personnel quickly transported Davis to NYC Health + Hospitals / Lincoln in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, the injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The loss of a young man in the prime of his life sent ripples of grief through his community and family, who were notified of the tragic event.
In the wake of the shooting, the New York Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led to a significant development in the case. A suspect, identified as 51-year-old Luis Cedres of the Bronx, was taken into custody. Cedres is now facing serious charges, including murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon, in connection with the death of Kashmere Davis. While an arrest has been made, the investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the fatal encounter.
