In the early morning hours of New Year's Day 2015, the life of 26-year-old Herb Huntley was tragically cut short in a fatal shooting in the Bronx. The incident, which marked New York City's first homicide of the year, unfolded just before 3 a.m. inside the lobby of the St. Mary's Houses on Westchester Avenue in the Melrose section of the borough.
Responding to a 911 call, police officers arrived to find Huntley with gunshot wounds to his head and torso.
He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. At the time of the incident, authorities had not made any arrests and the investigation was ongoing.
Huntley, a male resident of the nearby John Adams Houses, was discovered by police in the lobby of 671 Westchester Ave. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and a motive were not immediately clear to investigators.
