On a Wednesday evening in the Bronx, the life of 22-year-old male Malik Bright was tragically cut short. It was May 11, 2022, at approximately 6:45 PM, when police responded to a 911 call reporting shots fired near East 164th Street and River Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Bright with two gunshot wounds to the back of his head.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Bright had been walking past the entrance of Mullaly Park when he was struck by gunfire.
He was reportedly running away when he was hit. Emergency medical services rushed him to NYC Health + Hospitals / Lincoln, but his injuries were too severe. Two days later, on Friday, May 13, 2022, Malik Bright was pronounced deceased.
The investigation into the shooting remained ongoing, but an arrest was made in connection with the homicide. A 17-year-old male, Miguel Gonzalez, was taken into custody. Gonzalez was subsequently charged with murder and criminal possession of a firearm for his alleged role in the death of Malik Bright. The case continues as the charges against Gonzalez are accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
