In the summer of 2018, a young man's life was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in a Brooklyn apartment building. Arif Yeakub, a 24-year-old male, was fatally shot on June 7th inside a residence at 550 Ocean Avenue in the Flatbush neighborhood. The incident unfolded in what police believe was a drug deal that took a deadly turn.
According to law enforcement, two individuals went to the building with the intention of selling drugs to Yeakub.
An altercation reportedly broke out when Yeakub decided against proceeding with the transaction. The situation escalated rapidly, resulting in Yeakub being pistol-whipped and then shot. The assailants fled the scene, leaving a community in shock and a family to mourn a senseless loss.
The subsequent investigation led to a breakthrough with the arrest of one of the suspects. Jorge Luna, an 18-year-old from Sunset Park, was taken into custody and faced murder charges in connection with Arif Yeakub's death. While one alleged perpetrator was apprehended, the search continued for a second suspect. Authorities reported that another man, seen running from the building wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, was also being sought for his involvement in the fatal shooting.
